Hooligans Sport Tavern

Food – First let me say that they have a very excellent beer selection here. They have many craft beers and get new ones in all the time. Plus they also stock all your old favorites as well. I ordered the shrimp linguini here. It is grilled shrimp with olive oil, butter, lemon and white wine sauce with scallions, tomatoes, basil and parmesan cheese. I ordered this because it is not an easy dish to execute and since I haven’t read a single bad review or heard anything but praise for this place, I figured if they could do well at this it must be spectacular. It came with a side salad and it came out first. I was highly disappointed in the salad. Bad lettuce and they only gave me a 1.5 oz ramakin of pre bottled ranch dressing. My biggest pet peve is that if you don’t serve a salad that taste good without dressing, then give me plenty of dressing to make it taste good. I was ready to write this place off as a similar quality as any chain restaurant. However, I am glad I waited until I received my shrimp linguini because it was phenomenal. I could be served their shrimp linguini in any restaurant and agree that it meets the highest of standards. It was a beautifully executed dish with the proper balance of each of the butter, white wine sauce and lemon that gave it flavoring. Noodles were cooked perfect as well. I loved the dish and cannot wait to go back and try all the other items on the menu. Food gets an A-

Ambiance – This place sits right on the line of an upper class sports bar and a lower class sports bar. It’s like it doesn’t know what it wants to be. The tables, bar and everything look great and provides a comfortable atmosphere, but they also hang those cheap poster signs advertising poker and cheap beers on the wall as well. I like it and have no complaints. I just wish they would have either chosen to go with a low key place to get cheap beer and food at or a nice bar with phenomenal food and amazing local craft beer. You shouldn’t try to be everything to everybody. Ambiance gets a B

Service – I was by myself and sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly. She had obviously obtained a following of regulars because the bar was full of people that knew her from previous trips, yet most of the tables were empty. I could see why. I felt very welcome and like I had a new friend. I would almost guarantee when I came back the next time she remembers me as well. She also knew exactly what she was doing because she had some great recommendations from the beer list and menu as well. My only complaint was that my food was not spaced. I only had my salad for around 4 minutes when my entrée came out. I wasn’t even half done with my salad but the food runner sat it down anyways. I think timing of your dishes is important and they didn’t excel at this point. Service gets a B+

Price/Quality – for the dish I received, I would have paid $30+ for. My bill was only $18 which included two craft beers along with my entrée. That’s a pretty phenomenal price for everything I received. I usually pay double that for a lot less quality at Taco Mac up the road. Price/Quality gets an A

Uniqueness – Cheap, great atmosphere, great food. When you go to a sports bar pick two of those because you cannot get all three. Well that was until Hooligans came along. It has a great atmosphere with phenomenal food and will take very little out of your wallet. I don’t think there is another sports bar exactly like it around here. Uniqueness gets an A+
