Gilly’s

GRADE: B+

Food – I ordered the French dip sandwich with fries. I was expecting typical bar food but I can safely say that what I received exceeded my expectations. I’m not sure where they get their bread from but it was perfect. If I didn’t know any better, I would have said they baked it fresh in the back just for my sandwich. While the bread was phenomenal the meat was also great. It was very tender and juicy. I have had one too many dry and tough pieces of meat on French dip sandwiches to know how great it was to get that. Fries were also great. Seasoned well and fried as they should be. It’s great to find a bar that cares enough about the food they serve to pick quality vendors. Food gets a B+

Ambiance – This is your typical neighborhood bar. Pool table and darts in the back, a few tables up front with a bar and two flat screen tv’s. They have something such as trivia or poker every night. It is clean and cozy just like your neighborhood bar should be. It’s the perfect place to relax and grab a drink before heading home from work. Ambiance gets a B

Service – I believe it was the owner that served us from behind the bar. He was very friendly and chatty. He was also concerned with how well we enjoyed ourselves and how our meal was. He always came up to us with a smile which made us feel welcome in a place we had never been before. It was very inviting and makes me want to go back. Service gets an A

Price/Quality – Meets everything you would expect for a bar. I think my French dip and fries were around $7 and a Bud Light in a bottle which only cost me $2.50. I saw they even had some daily specials where beer was $1 and other food items priced remarkably at the same low price. It’s one of the only places I know of in town to get a domestic beer for only $1. Will certainly be back for that. Price/Quality gets a B+

Uniqueness – Think of your typical neighborhood bar. Something usually gives right? Great food but lousy service. Maybe both but over priced or maybe has all of those but is just filthy. I have rarely went into a neighborhood bar that has good food, a nice atmosphere, friendly service, and is cheap but Gilly’s has all of this. I will certainly be back to this place. Uniqueness gets an A
